Manila, May 11 -- Although Tropical Depression (TD) Caloy is unlikely to directly affect the country throughout the forecast period, its trough is forecast to cause rains in some areas of the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Monday.
Caloy's trough will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.
Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in floods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Caloy maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
