Manila, Aug. 6 -- Indigent and homeless Filipinos facing eviction would no longer be required to post a supersedeas bond when appealing ejectment cases under a bill approved by the Senate on second reading.

A supersedeas bond is a court-required payment that stays the implementation of an eviction order while an appeal is pending.

Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero said on Thursday Senate Bill No. 70 would prevent poverty from denying vulnerable families the opportunity to challenge an eviction order before a higher court.
