Remulla urges Congress to give gun laws more teeth
Manila, Aug. 20 -- Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Wednesday that the country needs a more comprehensive law that would hold negligent firearm owners criminally liable when their registered weapons are used in crimes.
Remulla made the remark in a press briefing in Camp Crame following Tuesday's fatal shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School campus in Zamboanga City.
He called on lawmakers to amend Republic Act 11766, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, which is referred to as the "Robin Padilla Law" over claims that the actor-turned-senator was the one who crafted and passed it into law.
