Manila, Oct. 23 -- The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has clarified that the PHP2.27-billion contract for the offshore wind port project in Mercedes, Camarines Norte, was awarded to a joint venture of two wholly Filipino-owned companies.

In a statement on Friday, the PPA addressed recent media reports that suggested the project was awarded to a Chinese company and involved the redevelopment of an existing port.

"Contrary to the impression conveyed by certain reports, the contract was NOT awarded to a Chinese company," the PPA said.

The agency identified the winning joint venture as Khan Kon Chi Construction and Development Corporation and SB Construction Corporation.
