Manila, July 13 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has tasked local police offices and units to coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) in holding active shooter drills in all schools nationwide.

These drills are intended to bolster the safety of students, teachers and school personnel on campuses across in case of emergencies.

"The safety and welfare of our learners are always our top priority, and the information that would be provided through this program would be their first line of protection and defense in cases of emergency situations inside the campus," PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
