Manila, Aug. 12 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) stepped up its post-disaster recovery efforts in the aftermath of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, and the enhanced southwest monsoon or "habagat".

In a statement Wednesday, PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units in calamity-affected areas were directed to maintain heightened visibility and work closely with local governments as they begin restoring normal community activities.

The PNP reported 26 deaths from weather-related incidents as of Tuesday afternoon, which include 25 civilians and one police officer.
