Manila, June 12 -- Independence Day celebrations and related protest activities across the country remained peaceful and orderly on Friday, with no major incidents reported, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"As of this hour, the localized demonstrations and public assemblies being held across the country in observance of Independence Day have remained completely peaceful and orderly, with no major untoward incidents reported," PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

He added that police units nationwide continue to monitor the situation in line with instructions from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to ensure public safety.
