Manila, April 13 -- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Monday reminded police chiefs and unit heads to strictly enforce heat-safety measures as temperatures rise.

In a press briefing, Nartatez said supervisors must ensure proper pacing and adequate rest for police personnel, especially for those outdoors.

"I remind our police chiefs and heads of units to ensure that their men on the ground are getting their breaks while on duty to protect them from too much heat," he said.

The country is experiencing intensified heat during the dry season, with dangerous heat index levels recorded in several areas.

Heat index refers to how hot it feels when humidity is combined with air temperature.
