Manila, Sept. 22 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) credited maximum tolerance and a calibrated security plan for keeping the Sept. 21 demonstrations generally peaceful nationwide despite a few isolated incidents that were immediately addressed by police personnel.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the peaceful conduct of the protests reflected the ability of law enforcement and demonstrators to exercise their respective rights and responsibilities.

"Our goal of ensuring that even those who participated in today's activities would go home safely was achieved and only showcased the effectiveness of our calibrated security plan," Nartatez said in a statement on Tuesday.
