Manila, Sept. 23 -- Marie June Adriano debuted at the 20th Asian Games with a bronze medal in the women's kumite -50kg in karate at the Toyohashi Gymnasium in Nagoya, Japan on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Human Kinetics student from Polytechnic University of the Philippines defeated Chinese Taipei's Ya-chi Chung, 10-3.

Adriano defeated Cambodia's Srey Phea Chonn, 4-3, and South Korea's Yang Yewon, 4-0, before losing to Hong Kong's Tsang Yee Ting, 4-5, in the semifinals.

Having lost to Chung in two previous encounters, Adriano made the necessary adjustments to finally beat her.
