Manila, March 9 -- The Philippine Navy's (PN) deployment of its most modern guided missile frigate, the BRP Diego Silang (FFG-7), to this year's iteration of the Multilateral Naval Exercise "Kakadu" in Australia showcased the growing defense ties of the two nations.
"The participation of the Navy in such exercises overseas holds significant strategic and operational relevance such as strengthening partnerships, promote regional security cooperation, and enhancing interoperability with allied and partner navies," PN spokesperson Captain Marissa Martinez told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) Monday when asked about BRP Diego Silang's deployment to the biennial naval exercises hosted by the Royal Australian Navy.
