Manila, July 22 -- The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) on Wednesday clarified that Filipinos do not need an existing valid government-issued ID to apply for a Postal ID.

First-time applicants only need to submit a birth certificate, barangay certificate or other acceptable proof of address, and a duly accomplished Postal ID application form, which have long been the standard requirements.

"The Postal ID has always been intended to make it easier for Filipinos to establish their identity, especially those applying for their first government-issued ID," Postmaster General and CEO Maximo Sta. Maria III said in a statement.
