Manila, Aug. 5 -- A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake struck 37 km. southwest of Balut Island at around 12:14 p.m. It was 13 km. deep.

Intensity V was felt in Glan, Sarangani, while intensity IV was felt in Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City; Malungon and Alabel, Sarangani; and Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato.

Intensity III was reported in Maasim, Maitum, and Malapatan, Sarangani; Lake Sebu and Tampakan, South Cotabato, and intensity II in City of Koronadal, Banga, Surallah, South Cotabato.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data," Phivolcs said.
