Manila, Aug. 17 -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has begun surprise inspections of gasoline stations in Metro Manila to check the implementation of the increased PHP12 per liter fuel discount for public utility vehicle (PUV) operators.

The fuel discount program was extended and increased from PHP10 to PHP12 per liter starting Aug. 15 as part of the commitment of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to support the public transport sector.

In a statement on Monday, LTFRB chairperson Vigor Mendoza II said the inspections which started Sunday aim to identify and immediately address any challenges encountered by participating gas stations and beneficiaries from the public transport sector.
