Manila, April 24 -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 (Northern Mindanao) has urged the local government here to collaborate in regulating the growing number of "motorcycle taxis" citing road safety concerns.
In a Friday interview, LTFRB-10 Assistant Director and Chief Transportation Development Officer Mohammad Hajam Sarip said motorcycle units have increased to 9,000 this year, with some accepting passengers to become "motorcycle taxis".
"We mean road safety as the agency's main advocacy. That's why we don't want four-wheeled taxis to be heavily outnumbered by motorcycle taxis, which are more prone to accidents," he said.
