LEGAZPI CITY, Oct. 16 -- Barangay Buyoan in this city is strengthening its preparations for the looming El Nino phenomenon, with interventions targeting agricultural production, public water access, fire prevention, and the protection of vulnerable residents from extreme heat.

Barangay Captain Ronaldo Mina said in a phone interview on Friday that the barangay council is coordinating with concerned government agencies and mobilizing its committees to mitigate the potential effects of prolonged dry conditions on residents.

Among the major interventions are two dams and a solar-powered pump project being constructed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), which are expected to be completed by November.
