Manila, March 2 -- The nationwide crime rate fell by 25 percent in the first two months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.

PNP data showed focus crimes dropped from 6,081 cases in January-February 2025 to 4,532 this year. Focus crimes include murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, carnapping of motorcycles and motor vehicles, and theft.

Rape cases declined, 707 to 301; physical injury, 368 to 284; carnapping of motor vehicles, 14 to 12; carnapping of motorcycles, 182 to 162; murder, 270 to 242; and theft, 943 to 879.

In February alone, focus crimes declined to 2,269 cases, 566 fewer than 2,835 in February 2025.
