Manila, Sept. 15 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has exceeded its prediction of an 80 percent voter turnout in Monday's inaugural Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections (BPE).

"We are pleased that voter turnout was very high, averaging 80 to 81 percent - consistent with our prediction. This means that despite some incidents of violence, our fellow citizens did not let that stop them from voting, even immediately after such incidents occurred," Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said in an interview on Tuesday.

He said this translates to 1.9 million voters out of the region's 2,392,202 registered voters.
