Ilocos town dips into funds for temporary repair of damaged seawall
LAOAG CITY, July 14 -- The local chief government of Santa in Ilocos Sur ordered on Tuesday the immediate implementation of emergency measures to protect residents living near a damaged seawall in Barangay Quezon District, following concerns over the structure's condition and the potential risks posed by strong waves, storm surges and coastal erosion this typhoon season.
Santa Mayor Jeremy Jesus Bueno said he has mobilized engineering and disaster response teams to assess the extent of the damage and carry out temporary protective measures while plans for permanent repairs are being finalized.
He said the emergency response aims to reduce the risk to nearby homes, public infrastructure, and coastal communities.
