Manila, March 25 -- Government workers can now borrow up to PHP500,000 at 5 percent interest to install solar panels under a new loan program aimed at reducing electricity costs and supporting energy security efforts.

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Wednesday opened applications for its Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL), in line with efforts to expand renewable energy adoption following the declaration of a national energy emergency.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the program enables members to take part in the country's energy transition.
