Manila, April 1 -- Doctors from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) have conducted their first medical mission for former soldiers incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said doctors from VMMC, led by Medical Director Dr. Peter Paul Reuben Galvez, conducted the outreach last Tuesday as a step toward addressing the healthcare needs of retired service members serving sentences within the prison system.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said this medical mission would be held more frequently to strengthen medical care for former soldiers, who deserve comprehensive medical attention even while confined.
