Manila, Sept. 24 -- Regulatory approvals for the commissioning of battery energy storage systems (BESS), intended to help boost power capacity in the Visayas, will be issued immediately once applications are submitted.

Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Francis Saturnino Juan said in a media interview on Thursday that the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is currently testing potential facilities for implementation.

"As soon as the filing is with us, we will act on it expeditiously. These can be used as long as they're already commissioned, to absorb some of the excess generation during daytime and then discharge them during the early evening when we usually would have the yellow alert...
