Manila, Sept. 10 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to construct more and wider inlets on flood-prone areas in Metro Manila to allow higher volume of rainwater to flow into drainage network quickly, preventing street-level flooding and keeping main thoroughfares passable during heavy downpours.

In an interview Thursday, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said they are looking to start works on major roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) as soon as the skies clear.

"We will start working on these roads once the weather improves, but the priority is flood-prone areas," Dizon told reporters during the inspection of the newly widened drainage inlets along EDSA Estrella southbound in Makati City.
