ILOILO CITY, June 15 -- The Department of Education in Western Visayas (DepEd-6) is targeting to plant some 3 million trees by 2028 as part of the Eco Champions Program initiated by Regional Director Cristito Eco.

In an interview on Monday, DepEd-6 Regional Information Officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said they are adding to the competencies of learners the ways and means on how to ensure a sustainable environment.

"Whenever we have major activities, we include the tree planting activity as a way of encouraging children that more than the learning in the classroom on how to maintain a green environment, there must be an action toward it," he said.
