Iloilo City, June 8 -- The Department of Education in Western Visayas (DepEd -6) welcomed over 745,000 learners across the region as classes for school year 2026-2027 officially began on Monday.

In a statement, DepEd-6 Regional Director Cristito Eco III said they are committed to ensuring the smooth and effective rollout of the three-term school calendar.

"This structure is designed to provide a balanced distribution of learning time, allowing learners to better attain the required competencies while also considering their well-being. Through careful planning and coordinated efforts, we aim to maximize instructional time and improve learning outcomes throughout the school year," he said.
