Manila, Sept. 2 -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has urged local government units (LGUs) to strengthen waste segregation and landfill management, citing Bayawan City's consistent and proper waste management.

In a news release Wednesday, the DENR cited Bayawan City in Negros Oriental as an example of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s vision for LGUs to become "laboratories of workable solutions and showcases of best practices."

"Proper landfill design is possible, and all LGUs should follow the example of Bayawan," Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna said during a recent visit to the Bayawan City Waste Management and Ecology Center (BCWMEC).
