Manila, March 24 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is aiming to register some 150,000 new voters in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by the end of the voter registration period this month.
In an interview Tuesday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia attributed the high turnout to a rising number of registrants in the region.
"The number of voters in the Bangsamoro is increasing. There is a possibility that by March 31, we will reach 150,000 voters," he said.
As of March 23, the poll body has processed 94,120 applications: Lanao del Sur (25,329), Maguindanao del Norte (20,579), Maguindanao del Sur (15,396), Basilan (13,047), Tawi-Tawi (10,461), and Special Geographic Area (9,308).
