BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 16 -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued four people, including a child, stranded on Hagonoy Island in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, after their small boat encountered rough seas, authorities said Friday.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station in Bislig City (CGSS Bislig) said the ordeal began Wednesday afternoon when the boat encountered strong waves and took in seawater while traveling from Hagonoy Island to Barangay Labisma in Bislig City.

"The rough sea conditions forced the operator to discontinue their voyage and seek assistance from authorities," CGSS Bislig said.

An initial attempt to reach the stranded individuals on the island was unsuccessful due to the prevailing conditions.
