Manila, Sept. 1 -- Civilian government agencies may no longer receive confidential and intelligence funds (CIF) under the proposed 2027 national budget as the Senate moves to restrict such allocations to offices directly involved in law enforcement, national security and investigation.

Senate Committee on Finance chairperson JV Ejercito on Tuesday said stricter scrutiny of CIF allocations will form part of the Senate's deliberations on the proposed PHP7.2-trillion spending plan.

"We will limit it to the law enforcement agencies, to the national agencies which has something to do with national security and investigation," Ejercito said in a press conference.
