Butuan orders school building checks; bridge closed after 7.8 quake
Butuan City, June 8 -- The city government of Butuan ordered the immediate assessment of school infrastructures following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck most parts of Mindanao on Monday morning.
Classes at all levels in the city were suspended to allow the Infrastructure Audit Team to conduct assessments. The tremor jolted General Santos City past 7 a.m., with different levels of intensity felt across Mindanao regions.
"The assessment aims to determine damage in school facilities that may pose danger to teachers and students," the Public Information Office of Butuan City said.
