Brownouts loom in Luzon, Visayas amid tight power supply
Manila, May 14 -- Manual Load Dropping (MLD) may be implemented in parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Thursday after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed both grids under red alert status.
The red alert in the Luzon grid will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., while the Visayas grid will also be under red alert from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., due largely to insufficient capacity to meet regulating requirements.
Available capacity in the Luzon grid stood at around 12,464 megawatts (MW), against a peak demand of 12,877 MW.
NGCP said the MLD in the Luzon grid may be implemented until 5 p.m. in portions being served by the Baguio Electric Cooperative, Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative Inc., Isabela II Electric Cooperativ...
