SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Aug. 3 -- The provincial board here is urging the inclusion of native swine production in the coverage of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

Board Member Karmila Rose Dimamay authored a resolution urging the inclusion of the livestock in the insurance coverage during their regular session Monday.

The coverage is necessary to protect farmers from possible losses caused by the African swine fever (ASF) and other diseases, she said.

Currently, PCIC only insures high-breed swine.

"The native swine are not immune to diseases such as ASF, but they are not included in the PCIC insurance coverage," Dimamay said in an interview.
