Manila, March 19 -- All passengers at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will be able to enjoy a 50-percent discount from their usual fare beginning March 23 as part of the government's efforts to ease the burden of the public amid rising fuel prices.

In a message to reporters on Thursday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the discount will remain until further notice.

DOTr acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez also said in a statement that the fare discount aims to help the public by ensuring ease of travel and by helping reduce their daily spending.
