2 DPWH officials in Benguet sacked over cyclist's death
Manila, May 20 -- Two officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Cordillera region have been relieved over the death of a cyclist in Benguet.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Wednesday ordered the removal of District Engineer Isagani Cayme and Engineer Marjory Banao for failing to provide adequate road safety signage and traffic control devices, such as concrete barriers on the abandoned, collapsed section of the road in Barangay Beckel, La Trinidad.
The lack of warning signs and the absence of a concrete barrier are the possible reasons for the accident wherein the 13-year-old victim died after falling off a cliff.
