Manila, April 29 -- More than 106,000 police officers will be deployed nationwide to ensure a peaceful observance of Labor Day on Friday, an event traditionally marked by rallies and protests from labor and progressive groups, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuano said the police force will be on heightened alert from Thursday to Saturday, despite the absence of any specific or credible threats linked to the occasion.
"We continue to monitor for threats, but we are not complacent. Monitoring efforts will remain in place so we can respond immediately should any risk arise," Tuanp said during a press briefing.
