Windows BitLocker zero day raises fresh risks for encrypted drives
India, May 15 -- The recent publication of a BitLocker bypass vulnerability reminds us that encryption strength will only be as secure as the recovery methods associated with it. There are two publicly disclosed Windows zero-day exploits, named YellowKey and GreenPlasma, which can compromise sensitive devices in different ways, the first being through having physical access to encrypted devices and the second being via gaining elevated permissions via a local exploit within Windows.
YellowKey appears to be the most serious BitLocker bypass vulnerability; it impacts Windows 11, 2022 Server, and 2025 Server. Windows 10 is not impacted by YellowKey, as its recovery processing is dissimilar compared to other versions of Windows.
