India, Nov. 6 -- WhatsApp is rolling out an AI-powered photo expansion feature to selected iPhone users, allowing photographs to fit vertical screens without cropping important details. Powered by Meta AI, the tool generates additional visual content around an existing image, creating a 9:16 version suitable for WhatsApp Status updates and conversations.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature was identified in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.44.10.16. Access is currently limited to selected TestFlight testers, although some users running the public App Store version have also received it.

The rollout follows similar testing on Android, signalling Meta's efforts to bring generative image editing directly into everyday messaging.
