India, May 14 -- The mouse cursor may be getting its first serious promotion in decades. Google's Gemini-powered pointer concept is not just another AI shortcut. It signals a deeper shift: AI is moving from a separate chat window into the interface itself. Google DeepMind has described an experimental AI-enabled pointer that can understand what a user is pointing at on screen and combine that visual context with short voice commands. Google's Magic Pointer, shown with its Googlebook laptop plans, is also expected to arrive inside Gemini in Chrome.
The idea is simple. Instead of copying text into a chatbot or explaining what is visible on screen, users could point, speak, and let Gemini infer the task.
