India, Sept. 3 -- Not every Geographic Information System workload needs 3D analysis, network analysis, or detailed cartography. A large part of day-to-day GIS work still involves opening maps, editing geographic data, running queries, and working with local datasets. Esri India is targeting that simpler layer with GeoSARAL, a new desktop GIS for Linux and Windows.

GeoSARAL is meant to work alongside existing ArcGIS deployments rather than replace ArcGIS Pro. It supports common desktop GIS tasks and can handle locally stored data and basemaps without requiring a constant internet connection. Android support is planned, although Esri India has not provided a release timeline.
