Punjab, Sept. 10 -- Thursday brought a cluster of Indian startup announcements weighted towards infrastructure rather than consumer apps: cross-border payments, voice AI at scale, lending automation and cybersecurity.

Not one of these is a consumer product. They are the layers underneath: moving money across borders, talking to customers in their own language, deciding who gets a loan, keeping systems from being breached.

The Sarvam number is the one worth pausing on. One crore completed calls in 12 Indian languages is not a pilot. Voice is how a large part of India actually transacts, and a system that works across that many languages at that volume is infrastructure, not a demo.
