Punjab, Sept. 29 -- The US has set a zero tariff on certain specialty drugs imported from India and 19 other countries - published in the Federal Register just as a 100% tariff on patented pharmaceutical imports takes effect from 29 September.
What is exempt
Components and associated ingredients of those products are also at zero.
Why this is relief rather than a win
The exemption exists because a tariff was coming. The April proclamation set out duties on patented pharmaceuticals, biologics and their ingredients, aimed at pulling manufacturing back into the United States. India is now on the list of countries excused from part of it.
