Punjab, Sept. 25 -- Around 10,000 people have been moved to 200 relief centres in southern and western Odisha as the deep depression dumped extraordinary rainfall inland. Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur recorded 395mm. Twenty-four places crossed 100mm.
The rainfall
Six districts are worst hit: Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada. Western and coastal Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, has also been disrupted.
Schools are shut. Rivers are swollen, landslides have occurred, waterlogging is widespread and houses have been damaged.
The pattern held exactly as forecast
The IMD warned before landfall that the heaviest rain would fall inland rather than at the coast, and issued red warnings for Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarang...
