Punjab, Oct. 6 -- India voted today in bypolls across five assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituency, in four states and union territories. Counting is on 9 October.

Nandigram is the one everyone will read
It fell vacant because Suvendu Adhikari gave it up after becoming Chief Minister - he contested both Nandigram and Bhabanipur in the 2026 election, beat Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by 15,105 votes, and kept that seat instead.
So this is the Chief Minister's former constituency, five months into the first BJP government West Bengal has had. The BJP won that election 207 seats to Trinamool's 78.
Polling was held under heavy security.
