Punjab, Oct. 7 -- Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained at Akashvani Bhavan in Delhi while leading an INDIA bloc protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It was the third detention of opposition MPs in two days. They were released after about two hours.
What they are asking for
Two things. Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, and an end to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The immediate demand during the protest was narrower: that opposition MPs be allowed to meet the CEC and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. Rahul Gandhi refused to end the protest until that meeting was granted. Backdoor negotiations failed.
