Punjab, Oct. 13 -- Delhi Police has removed Jantar Mantar from its list of designated protest venues, naming Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as alternatives. The standing order was signed on Monday by Commissioner Anurag Kumar - who is, as of the previous day, one of three officials facing a Supreme Court contempt notice over the same week's protests.
What the order does
It partially modifies a standing order of 28 April 2022, which had designated Jantar Mantar as a site for demonstrations. Coverage credits the change to recommendations from a committee set up by the Union Home Ministry to examine alternative venues where citizens can exercise the right to protest.
