Punjab, Sept. 15 -- India will send 496 athletes - 264 men and 232 women - to the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, competing across 36 sports. The opening ceremony is on 19 September at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya. India's campaign starts two days before that.

Competition at these Games opened on 10 September, nine days ahead of the formal inauguration, a scheduling device organisers increasingly use to fit large team sports into the calendar.
India's first event is teqball on 17 September. The women's cricket team plays its quarter-final against hosts Japan on 18 September. Both come before any Indian athlete has walked in the parade.
