Punjab, Sept. 25 -- India are on 23 medals at Aichi-Nagoya - two gold, nine silver, twelve bronze - after a day six in which the athletics programme finally started producing.

28:29.38 for silver in a distance event is the result that says most about where Indian athletics has got to.
The 10000m has been owned in Asia by West Asian runners for two decades, many of them naturalised from East Africa. An Indian runner competing at the front of that field, rather than finishing respectably behind it, is a change in kind rather than degree.

The 50m rifle 3P team silver is Rudrankksh Patil's third medal of these Games, after individual bronze and team silver in the 10m air rifle.
