Punjab, Sept. 12 -- Hanuman Ansh was made for about Rs 2 crore. It has taken roughly Rs 205 crore gross and Rs 173 crore net in India. That ratio makes it one of the most profitable Indian films ever produced.

The number that matters is not the total

Rs 173 crore net is a good result. Rs 173 crore net on a Rs 2 crore budget is a different category of outcome altogether.

Hindi cinema's economics have bent heavily toward event-scale production, where a film needs several hundred crore just to break even and a single failure can absorb a studio's year. A film returning eighty times its cost is a reminder that the relationship between budget and return was never as fixed as the current slate assumes.
