Fiji, May 22 -- The European Union (EU) has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of a landmark resolution supporting the International Court of Justice's Advisory Opinion on climate change, calling it a major step in strengthening international law and global climate action.

In a statement delivered at the UN General Assembly Wednesday, the EU and its Member States praised Vanuatu for leading the process over the past three and a half years and said the adoption of the resolution reflected a shared global commitment to addressing climate change.
