Bhubaneswar, Nov. 7 -- A woman sarpanch in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district was arrested on Friday on charges of her alleged involvement in the misappropriation of government funds meant for panchayat development.

Police arrested Sarojini Nayak, the sarpanch of Balia Gram Panchayat under Kujang block, after a court rejected her bail plea and sent her to judicial custody.

The case also involves Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Raghunath Champia, whom Kujang Police arrested in October. He is currently in jail.
